Christine Krolewicz hasn't added a story.
I've always been up for an adventure - from climbing high peaks in the Adirondacks to night scuba diving with sharks in the Great Barrier Reef, I've had 33 years of incredible experiences already! I am BEYOND EXCITED to rappel down the tallest building in my city, especially in a way that pays it forward to an organization that helps others to have rich and full life experiences.
I recently began volunteering at the Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center in East Aurora, NY, which provides horsemanship and horseback riding opportunities for individuals with cognitive, physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. I have personally experienced the benefits of interactions in nature, particularly being around animals, and am honored to be part of a place that makes this possible for all kinds of people.
I have also advocated for an animal with a disability in the past and understand the value of an intentional support system that unconditionally welcomes and enriches. I lived and worked on a farm in Vermont during the pandemic and my favorite part was raising large animals like sheep and cows.
One lamb was born with a back leg that he wasn't able to move. We tried many treatments and I spent all the time I could supporting him, especially since he was having trouble nursing. Finally the farm had to make a difficult choice and I refused to accept that this lamb's life would be taken away. I looked for other options and was able to connect with a local farm sanctuary. Farm sanctuaries are intentionally created to accept and protect animals for the rest of their natural lives. The lamb lived almost an entire full year and brought joy to so many people by being part of the farm sanctuary.
Given my experience with this lamb, I can't even begin to imagine what impact each human with a disability has in this world. I'm willing to take the leap!
Thank you for supporting me in my endeavor to go Over The Edge for The Arc Erie County New York! I am thrilled about this once in a lifetime opportunity!
Started in 1951 by a group of parents who were seeking supports for their children with disabilities, The Arc Erie County New York has always been a place for people to feel welcome despite their differences.
The Arc Erie County, focuses on the person as a whole, while considering individualized needs and desires. The Arc strives not only to support people with disabilities but to also support the family unit to ensure an all-inclusive care network. People are supported over the arc of a lifetime, from birth through end of life. The Arc's altruistic focus is communicated internally and externally so that all members of our community can Achieve with us.
