On August 12th, 2023, Reliant Foundation is partnering up with Over The Edge to bring urban rappelling to Big Pink in Portland and support Northwest Battle Buddies.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to descend over 530 feet while raising money for Veterans battling PTSD!

WHY WE ARE DOING THIS:  Today, on American soil, approximately 20+ Veterans will end their own lives by suicide due in part to Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD). These American Heroes face an ongoing battle that often goes unnoticed.

By supporting Rappel for Purpose and Northwest Battle Buddies, we can provide Veterans with the invaluable companionship of a Battle Buddy, a professionally trained service dog.

You can make a difference in the lives of our Veterans. Your impact can make a difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country and give back what was so freely given to us.

A VETERAN STORY

Talon saved my life yesterday. This picture was taken immediately after a pivotal moment. I pulled myself off the floor and sat in the chair ready to open the box cutter and slit my throat. Despite balling for 25 minutes while Talon licked the tears and snot off my face, my broken brain finally “convinced” me to end my pain. As soon as I sat down, this is what Talon did. For whatever reason, Talon pawing at me snapped me back to reality. I had been ignoring him the entire time before, even though we were physically on top of one another. Even when I gave up on myself, Talon did not. He brought me back from the devils doorstep. I began hysterically crying because I knew what happened. I knew how close I was to dying. I knew that without Talon I wouldn’t be here 18 hours later celebrating another sunrise. I think seeing this photo will always make me cry. I love this picture. I am so grateful instead of reaching for the box cutter I reached for my phone to capture Talon’s love and dedication. Thank you Northwest Battle Buddies!

 Requirements in order to participate/rappeler:

1. Your weight must be between 100 lbs and 300 lbs for safety purposes in order to rappel.
2. You are willing to rappel down a 42 story building.
3. Sign up and receive your own personal fundraising page and QR code. 
4. Crowd source the fundraising through your sphere of family, friends, and co-workers, and push it out to social media.

Fundraising goal is $2K per participant, but don't feel overwhelmed.  We will show you how to raise those funds by August.

TRANSPARENCY

The primary expense associated with putting on this event is the rigging and management of the rappel ropes for our participants.   Depending on how many people sign up and raise the requisite amount of funds, this expense could vary between $600 and $1000 per participant.  Reliant Foundation's commitment is to donate a minimum of $1000 per participant After a final accounting, we hope and expect that the per participant cost will be on the lower end of our expectations, and any remaining funds above and beyond the $1000. Reliant Foundation pays no wages, and its board and committee members are strictly volunteers with the goal of raising money to distribute to Northwest Battle Buddies and the Veterans they serve. (or other other local non-profits as stated on the participates fundraising page)
