What We Do (BGCBN)
Since February 1992, Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal has been a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois. The Club’s original location was in the basement of the John Kane Homes Community Center. By 1993 the Club had outgrown that space and moved to its current location next to the Lawrence Irvin Neighborhood Center (LINC.) We operate after-school and summer enrichment programs in two locations serving the academic, emotional, cultural and social needs of youth ages 6-18. Boys & Girls Club gives kids opportunities to succeed through programs that truly impact their lives. We provide Club members with:
- Homework help and tutoring
- Computer labs
- Sports and other recreational activities
- Field trips
- Arts
- Games
- Character and leadership development
- Career exploration and development
At the end of the day, we want our Club members to:
- Graduate from high school on time with a plan for the future
- Engage in healthy behaviors and become fit for life
- Develop strong character and become engaged citizens
In 2017, we celebrated 25 years of service to local, at-risk children. Thank you to our friends, supporters, and investors for continuing to provide great futures for youth in our community … especially those who need us most. We believe in FIVE key elements for positive youth development:
- A SAFE, POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT: The Club is a safe haven where members feel physically and emotionally secure at all times
- FUN: The Club facility, staff, and program offerings create a welcoming, positive environment that allows members to engage in play, enjoy their time, and be happy and eager to come to the Club.
- SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS: The Club ensures that every young person feels connected to one or more adults and has friendships with peers.
- OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: Club staff and programs consistently communicate the expectation that every child has the potential to excel, be productive and succeed at the Club and in life.
- RECOGNITION: The Club takes every opportunity to recognize and validate Club members' achievement and accomplishments.
What We Do (CPN)
The Child Protection Network (CPN) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)3 organization established in August of 1990 by the McLean County State’s Attorney, along with a grassroots group of community leaders. CPN’s mission is to provide financial resources that support the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Currently, CPN provides funding to support the Children's Advocacy Centers in Mclean, Livingston, and Dewitt Counties in their endeavor to investigate crimes against children and provide support to innocent family members as well as the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program that recruits and trains community volunteers to be a voice for children placed in the foster care system.
At the Child Advocacy Center we provide:
- Multi-disciplinary team approach to reports of abuse and investigations
- Medical exams and forensic interviews
- Counseling
- Services to victims and innocent family members
At CASA :
- We train volunteers to assist children as they navigate their way through the foster care system
- Learn to become the voice for children who often cannot speak for themselves
- Report to the court how your child is doing and what your child needs to flourish
At the Child Protection Network, we believe that every child has the right to a home that is safe and free from abuse. Children in foster care who have a CASA volunteer, like you, have a much brighter future. They do better in school, get better health care, and find a permanent loving home faster than those children without an advocate. YOU are the key to their bright future.
