About the Albany Area Arts Council:
Founded in 1976, the Albany Area Arts Council advocates for the arts by encouraging, sponsoring and supporting the arts and culture in our community. We work to achieve our mission of “uniting our community through the arts and humanities” by focusing on arts and cultural programming that enhance individual life, drive economic growth, and promote diversity along with a sense of community. The AAAC provides services to our collaborating organizations, the City of Albany at large, and an ever-widening surrounding area.
About our Over the Edge Event:
We are excited to bring the Over the Edge event to Albany. For the first time in our area, the Albany Area Arts Council is pleased to hold this fun and unique fundraising event. This event centers around the challenge of urban rappelling and provides a life-changing experience to participants, all while supporting the Albany Area Arts Council in its mission to unite our community through the arts and humanities! The Flats at 249 is our building sponsor for 2020, so we are pleased to announce that the event itself will be held across the street from the Arts Council at The Flats at 249.
Over the Edge is all about the challenge! Participants commit to go “Over the Edge” by fundraising to meet their goal ahead of the event in order to rappel on the event day. Each participant is provided an online fundraising page that they use for crowdsourcing personal sponsorship through social media and other online platforms. (Of course, participants are encouraged to collect old-fashioned cash donations as well.) Once a participant has raised $1000, they are eligible to go “Over the Edge!” And that is when the real challenge begins… they actually have to rappel down the side of The Flats at 249! Participants report to The Flats at 249 on event day where they will be greeted by Over the Edge’s technical staff of highly trained and certified industrial ropes specialists. They will walk participants through every step of the journey, so everyone should know this is a safe event for the entire family and community. And while there will be plenty of fear to overcome, the opportunities for excitement, achievement, and selfies will be abundant!
Over the Edge has been helping non-profit organizations around the world since 2008, raising over $100 million. In fact, their average event raises over $100,000 with an average of just 65 participants. The mission of Over the Edge is to raise millions for non-profit partners, like the Albany Arts Council, around the globe and help them to shape how organizations and people think about themselves and the community they engage in. Locally, the Albany Area Arts Council has set a fundraising goal of $50,000.
