My name is Heather Zoch, and I am a CASA.

Each year over 460,000 children in the United States are thrust into court system and consequently the welfare system, through no fault of their own. These children are victims of violence, psychological torment, sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment by their own parents.

These children are displaced from their homes, and often frightened and confused.

They become victims of the overburdened child welfare system- a complex legal network of lawyers, caseworkers, and judges who are too frequently overburdened to give thorough, detailed attention to each child who comes before them.

At CASA, we stand up for these children through advocacy by providing a voice in the courts and in the community. We ensure that these children's voices and best interests are represented in the system. We advocate for permanency and consistency, community activity, school engagement, consistent health care, and for mental health support for these children.

Over The Edge is an annual fundraiser in which we are able to raise funds for our cause. Donations help ensure that the victimized children in our community continue to have a voice and have services to support them in their time of need. It helps us to provide programs for children in the foster care system, such as Fostering Futures, which helps children aging out of the system to become established and successful in the community by assisting with resumes, interview skills, health education, college applications and admissions, budgeting, etc.

Your donation helps to ensure that children in our community receive a voice in the system.

Why we are going over:
Every day we see the fears and challenges the children we serve face; horrific abuse and neglect, abandonment, multiple homes, institutionalizations...
They have to face these challenges and life-lasting consequences. The very least we can do is face our fears and climb down a building while getting our friends excited to raise money for a cause that gives these children a  VOICE .

About CASA of Pueblo

CASA is a vital program making an impact in reducing child abuse and neglect in our communities and helping to move children out of the system and into safe permanent homes faster and with fewer foster placements. It has been established that the intervention of a support system or support individual can make the difference in the life of the child and affect positive change for the future.

CASA of Pueblo serves children ranging in age from 0-18 involved in Dependency and Neglect court actions because of allegations of abuse and/or neglect. CASA volunteers have to be specially trained to identify safety and risk factors that lead to child abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers work with children who have special needs or disabilities and are also trained in the areas of cultural competence and working with families who have elements of substance abuse, domestic violence, poverty, etc.
