My name is Jamie Humphrey & the cause closest to my heart is helping our Veterans. I come from a family full of Veterans, past & present. I don't feel our Veterans get near the help they so desperately deserve after leaving their families to defend ours. There should never be such a thing as a homeless Veteran but unfortunately, there are way too many. The Veteran's Resource Center is trying to help our men & women when they come home. Some of you have no idea what these Veterans have to deal with inside their heads & hearts after being overseas & seeing & experiencing the things they do. For some it is almost impossible to endure & to others it's entirely impossible to overcome. But with resources to help them, the devastation within them just might be conquered. Or at the very least, maybe they can find a way to cope.
Here are some of the things the Veteran Resource Center provides:
VETERAN RESOURCE CENTER
Their mission is to assist Veterans and their families find hope, healing and new purpose after enduring hardship through service to our nation or other obstacles they have faced.
The Veteran Resource Center (VRC) is a veteran-staffed drop-in facility that provides veterans, family members and surviving spouses with the opportunity to make their lives better: through connections with peers, receiving help with finding housing and employment, finding out what benefits they are eligible for, and help with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and traumatic brain injury. All services are provided at no cost to participants.
They partner with- and providing office space for- local organizations who help military veterans and family members, including but not limited to Socks for Soldiers, VetStar, Texas Workforce Solutions, West Texas Legal Aid, Texas Panhandle Centers, Honor Flight, the Amarillo VA and others.
The VRC also provides peer support groups, individual, family and marital counseling, and equine therapy.
Available Services Include:
Identifying and addressing the needs of Veterans, family members, and surviving spouses, and connecting them with the resources they need
- Assistance for homeless and at-risk Veterans
- Peer support groups
- Counseling
- Family support groups
- Life skills training
- Equine therapy
- Employment application assistance
- Referrals to local Veteran-friendly agencies
- Individual, family and marriage counseling
- Networking with local, area and statewide services for claims, compensation and education

About Family Support Services
For over a century, we've helped people in crisis, worked to end family violence, and offered healing behavioral health services to those who are suffering.
FSS serves over 25,000 people each year, including victims of sexual assault, family violence, and human trafficking; at-risk children, families, and individuals; people in need of individual, group, marital, and family counseling; and veterans, family members of veterans, and surviving spouses.

Family Support Services places an emphasis on helping Amarillo and Texas Panhandle residents, especially during times of crisis or family turmoil. We are governed by a community volunteer board and trace our roots back to the beginning of social services in Amarillo.
We provide integrated services in a continuum of care to meet the diverse needs of our clients, regardless of their ability to pay. The population served includes individuals in the Panhandle region, although most of our clients reside in Amarillo and Canyon.
