Hey ya'll! Thank you for visiting my Over The Edge Page!!! What is Over the Edge you ask? It's launching yourself off a very tall building in the name of a good cause - more specifically - Family Support Services in Amarillo, TX. So why in the world would I want to do such a thing? Well...I'll tell ya...it's because of #brave.
I've been a counselor here in Amarillo for some time now. I see mostly children, many who are survivors of trauma. We play with play-dough, sand, games, art supplies, and spend most of our time together sitting on the floor. And if there is one word that could describe each and every one of them it would be #brave.
And then there is my daughter. It's been a little over a year since she had a massive spinal fusion surgery where two rods and multiple hooks were placed in her back. She spent 5 days in the Pedi ICU - but you would never know. This summer she has successfully completed band camp, volunteered at the zoo, given her whole heart at church camp and scored in the 98th percentile of the entire State in Reading ability. It makes me cry just thinking about the amount of #brave that pulses through her veins.
And not only is Lauren amazing...God gave me an equally #brave son. From the moment Ryan was born we knew God had amazing plans for him. He went straight to the NICU in respiratory distress - but was out quicker than anyone could have imagined and headed home. He does have an intellectual disability, but that has never stopped him. Ryan plays the saxophone in his High School Marching Band, completes in Special Olympics, and is learning the skills he needs to be successful in the amazing life God has given him through programming at Advo.
And then there is this really great guy I've been married to for 17 years. We got married super young and had absolutely no idea what we were jumping into. The first few years were really tough. If anything lives-eats-breaths #brave it's fighting for your marriage. But with God - and some very wise counsel - we made it. And we stand together today stronger than we ever could have imagined. Kevin is my rock. He makes me laugh every single day. He is the #bravest man I know and I am honored to get to do life by his side.
#Brave is everything to me. It's the gift God gives us to not only survive difficult circumstances - but to overcome them and grow into the display of His Glory that He always planned for us to be. And so yes - I pee my pants a little every time I think about jumping off of this building. But I wouldn't trade the opportunity for the world. Because she who is brave - is free.

For over a century, we've helped people in crisis, worked to end family violence, and offered healing behavioral health services to those who are suffering.
FSS serves over 25,000 people each year, including victims of sexual assault, family violence, and human trafficking; at-risk children, families, and individuals; people in need of individual, group, marital, and family counseling; and veterans, family members of veterans, and surviving spouses.

Family Support Services places an emphasis on helping Amarillo and Texas Panhandle residents, especially during times of crisis or family turmoil. We are governed by a community volunteer board and trace our roots back to the beginning of social services in Amarillo.
We provide integrated services in a continuum of care to meet the diverse needs of our clients, regardless of their ability to pay. The population served includes individuals in the Panhandle region, although most of our clients reside in Amarillo and Canyon.
