Our Mission: To create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
Since 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network BBBS makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 3 through young adulthood in our communities. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
Our mentoring programs benefit children who face adversity and stressful challenges in their day-to-day lives due to factors beyond their control. By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community, we are accountable for each child in our program achieving:
- Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships
- Avoidance of risky behaviors
- Educational success
About the Event
BBBS of the Greater Sacramento Area and BBBS of Northern Sierra are excited to announce the 1st annual Over the Edge challenge. If you looking for a new way to challenge yourself, or if you are an adrenaline junkie, or if you are hoping to make the world a better place, or if you just need an excuse to do something out of the ordinary, then we are hosting the perfect event for you! We invite you to Go Over the Edge and descend down the Residence Inn by Marriott Downtown Sacramento, a 16 story building, on August 7th .
You can show kids everywhere that by surrounding themselves with the right teams, people who are supportive and positive, they can turn obstacles into opportunities. “Edger's” have the opportunity to enjoy an exciting adventure, mark something off their bucket list, AND make a direct positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged youth in our community. BBBS relies on the generosity of our community members for support. We hope you will be a part of the success of Big Brothers Big Sisters and join us as we go Over the Edge!
When donating or registering to be an Edger you will see Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Sierra on your PayPal & STRIPE receipts. This in an event being hosted by two BBBS affiliates, BBBS of the Greater Sacramento Area and BBBS of Northern Sierra. ALL PROCEEDS will be supporting both organizations.
Who your help supports
The money raised from this event will help us train volunteers, create and support long-term relationships, provide professional case management, and ensure optimal safety for everyone involved. We need YOUR help! Please stand with us as “Defenders of Potential” and give the gift of hope for a child’s future.
Requirements to be an Edger
Requirements in order to participate:
1. Your weight must be between 100 lbs and 300 lbs for safety purposes in order to rappel.
2. You are willing to rappel down a 16 story building.
3. You are willing and able to raise a minimum of $1,000 to be an edger by August 6th.
4. You are willing to pay a $25 registration fee that will go towards your $1,000 minimum at the time of registration.
5. Your temperature must be below 105 degrees on the day you go Over the Edge.
6. Please let us know if you have a pre-existing medical condition.
