The unemployment rate for adults with disabilities is dismal. The small number of resources offered paired with the lack of advocates for this community have resulted in many adults failing to truly thrive after high school graduation. My sister could easily become one of them. 

Not if The Arc of High Point has any say in the matter! We discovered this incredible gem nearly 9 years after our mom passed away and after Mal graduated from high school. Through this program, my sister has built key skills vital to maintaining healthy relationships (including that with her boyfriend of 3+ years whom she also met through activities at The Arc!), managing personal decisions, and understanding her own rights and responsibilities in society. I cannot sing enough praises for the ARC!

 While they have managed to keep their program fees low enough that we can self-pay (as Mallory approaches year 14 on the registry of unmet needs with no assistance from the Innovations Waiver), there is still a critical need for fundraising to help keep this wonderful program affordable and growing well into the future. 

No matter the size, your donation illustrates the importance of people like Mallory. They deserve affordable resources to build both job and interpersonal skills to live fulfilling lives - the lives we want for ourselves and our own children. The resources you support through your donation means MORE people with disabilities are able to attend the programs offered by the ARC like the Wild & Free Day program, Creatives Arts, and many other community-facing opportunities built to support,  include, and grow the skills of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Once my fundraising goal of $1,500 is met, I’ll be rappelling off one of the tallest buildings we could find to scream from the ROOFTOP that my sister is kind, smart, and IMPORTANT!
