Hello, we are your fellow Puebloans who work at the
Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP)
and we are committed to making a difference in our local
community. Help us raise funds for the Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA) of Pueblo.
The system is swamped with cases that cause the government
workers to not be able to give the attention to each child the way
they want to. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers have
the unique opportunity to have a much smaller case load and be able to
focus on the whole situation of each child they are assigned. The
people are volunteers, but they have to put a lot of time and effort
by attending training, researching all the factors of the child's life
and background, and legal implications of their situation. They need
to write up reports to assess the child's situation and recommend a
path forward to the best of their knowledge. People who care this
much about volunteer work have to be hard to come by and should be
very much appreciated.
All donations from this fundraiser will go to CASA of Pueblo to provide training and all the support needed for these volunteers and the children. They advocated for 283 children last year and had to turn away 85 because of lack of resources. Previously they had to turn away hundreds. There are still children out there that do not have an advocate just for their interests in court, so there is more work to be done.
Even a $20 donation can add up to a lot in helping the children that benefit from this program. How many children can we prevent from going into lives of crime because of the positive, caring influence of a CASA advocate? About CASA of Pueblo
CASA is a vital program making an impact in reducing child abuse and neglect in our communities and helping to move children out of the system and into safe permanent homes faster and with fewer foster placements. It has been established that the intervention of a support system or support individual can make the difference in the life of the child and affect positive change for the future.
CASA of Pueblo serves children ranging in age from 0-18 involved in Dependency and Neglect court actions because of allegations of abuse and/or neglect. CASA volunteers have to be specially trained to identify safety and risk factors that lead to child abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers work with children who have special needs or disabilities and are also trained in the areas of cultural competence and working with families who have elements of substance abuse, domestic violence, poverty, etc.
