About Habitat for HUmanity - Southwest Utah

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah is a non profit building and repairing homes in Southern Utah.

We are committed to providing safe, decent, affordable housing for qualified low-income families who would otherwise not be able to buy a home. Working with volunteers, families, corporations, congregations, and donors we are working to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live – starting right here in Washington County, Utah.

The History of Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah

HFHSWU was established in May 1998, for the purpose of building houses in partnership with low-income families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing. Our affiliate has completed 22 homes providing affordable housing for 125 individuals. We are currently working on our 23rd build here in Washington County, for the Havens Family!

 Habitat for Humanity in essence:

  • Established May 1998
  • Serves Washington County
  • To date, built 22 homes in Washington County and tithed our earnings for construction of another 22 overseas.
  • Utilizes dozens of volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours for the construction of each house
  • Keeps building costs at a minimum from donations of funds and materials
  • Partners with low-income families
  • Offers a “Hand-up … Not a Handout”
  • Partners with families willing to provide up to 500 hours of “sweat equity hours,” make a down payment, and commit to keeping monthly mortgage payments current
  • Sells completed houses at no profit and 0% interest
  • Channels mortgage payments into the Fund for Humanity, a revolving construction account used to build more houses

Global Work

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah’s work does not end in our local community. HFHSWU currently tithes $4500 per home built in Washington County and 10% of net income from ReStore sales toward building homes internationally.

HFHSWU has, to date, supported the work of Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Chile, and Haiti.
